Fine leaf chives have delicate, slender leaves that are milder and more refined than regular chives—perfect for garnishes and delicate dishes. The thin texture looks elegant chopped over everything from baked potatoes to cream soups. Chive: Chives are the ultimate perennial herb—a truly lazy gardener's dream! They offer continuous, mild onion flavor from hollow, grass-like leaves, plus edible, showy purple pom-pom flowers each spring. These compact alliums are extremely cold-hardy, require minimal maintenance, and their clump-forming habit allows for easy division and sharing. Perfect for garnishing eggs, potatoes, salads, and soups, chives are adaptable, productive, and return reliably for years, providing continuous fresh flavor and beautiful blooms. • Growing Tips: Transplant anytime during the growing season at 6-8 inch spacing. Divide clumps every 3-4 years to maintain vigor and share. Plants are perennial with exceptional cold-hardiness and an indefinite lifespan. • Sun Requirements: Full sun (6+ hours) to partial shade. They tolerate light shade well, producing tenderer foliage, while maintaining good production. • Preferred Soil: Average to rich, well-drained soil with moderate fertility and average moisture. Chives are highly adaptable and tolerate poor, sandy, or clay soil, requiring only adequate drainage. • Harvest Details: Begin snipping leaves when 6 inches tall; cut 2 inches above the soil for continuous regrowth spring through fall. Harvest flowers just as they open or at full bloom for salads and compound butters. Plants die back in winter and return each spring.
