Chocolate Cherry Sunflower is an open-pollinated variety that produces large, elegant flowers with burgundy petals and chocolate brown centers. Chocolate Cherry sunflowers grow 6 to 7 feet tall, with sturdy multibranched stems topped by gorgeous 5 to 8-inch flowers. Chocolate Cherry sunflowers make an excellent tall border for fences and dividers, and their rich color makes a lovely backdrop for native prairie plants like Yellow Coneflower, Black Eyed Susan and Plains Coreopsis. Allow the seed heads to mature in place and you'll be rewarded by a show of goldfinches, nuthatches, and woodpeckers, all performing acrobatics to get at the nutritious seeds. Finally, Chocolate Cherry Sunflowers also are great for floral arrangements with a vase life of about a week when flowers are cut just before they open. Blooms mid to late summer. Each packet contains a minimum of 50 seeds.
