"Ask a local and they’ll confirm that the few weeks of winter experienced by the Emerald Coast are accompanied by some of the coolest-toned and most beautiful sunrises of the entir e year. "The time before sunrise is often referred to as 'blue hour,' or 'alpenglow.' Alpenglow is my favorite time of the day, and this particular morning was a true stunner. As the sun prepared to rise to the east (right), the cool blue and red tones of alpenglow began lifting from the northern skies across Choctawhatchee Bay. "The sky, air, and water were all very calm; perhaps uncharacteristically so. The only motion or activity of any kind was a lone loon, seemingly as mesmerized by the scene as I was." Show more
