Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) is a hardy shrub / small tree native to North America that produces fragrant white spring flowers and also produces clusters of dark, tart cherries in late summer. The fruit is usually too astringent to eat raw but the fruit shines in syrups, jellies, and wines. A favorite of birds and pollinators, chokecherry can also be used in hedgerows, food forests, and habitat plantings.
