Well known to watch aficionados are names such as the Nautilus and the Royal Oak, those famed early examples of the “luxury sports watch.” But there were other such timepieces with integrated bracelets designed in the 1970s and 1980s, of which Chopard’s St. Moritz was one. Recently reimagined in the form of the brand’s Alpine Eagle, the original St. Mortiz was a celebration of the famed Swiss alpine ski resort, based around the principles of utilitarian design and “form follows function.” This particular St. Moritz, dating to circa 2000, features a 29mm stainless steel and yellow gold case with a matching, integrated bracelet and signed hidden deployant clasp. It has a gloss white dial with applied yellow gold indices and printed, quadrant Roman indices, as well as a matching pencil handset and date window at 6 o’clock. A stylized, screw-down bezel, signed crown and a quartz movement complete the package. Complete with its sales booklet, this ref. 8021 is in good condition, showing normal wear throughout.
