The cicada is the soundtrack of summer, that warm, buzzing hum that carries on the wind and somehow makes everything feel slower and more alive at the same time.I created this piece in anticipation of Cicada Fest, an epic music and arts festival hosted on Henley Island in St. Catharines every year. Hanging out in a hammock, doodling these winged creatures and googling facts about them... did you know some cicadas "sleep" under the roots of trees for 17 years before they come to the surface? Well, that one really got me. It got me thinking that to sing loudly, you must be well rested.
