Cintia knizei seeds grow into Kníže's Cintia — one of the highest-altitude cacti in the world, endemic to the high Andes of Bolivia (Potosí and Chuquisaca departments) at approximately 4,000 m altitude. The genus Cintia is named after the Cinti province of Chuquisaca department, Bolivia. The epithet knizei honours Karel Kníže (1928–2020), the Czech cactus explorer and field collector, who discovered this remarkable species in 1969 near Otavi, Potosí. Produces a solitary, globose, green body 3–5 cm across; sunken areoles with no spines; large tuberous carrot-like roots; relatively large yellow flowers 3–4 cm. IUCN Least Concern.
