In a working class neighborhood in New York, immigrant shopkeeper Joe Carmine (Leo Carrillo, The Cisco Kid and If You Could Only Cook) becomes the guardian to newly-orphaned Winnie (Edith Fellows, Pennies from Heaven and She Married Her Boss). Joe struggles to keep home and business afloat, while trying to find a doctor who can cure the condition that causes Winnie to be wheelchair-bound, with help from the neighbors, including Mrs. Devlin (Mary Gordon) and her son Tommy (Our Gang's Tommy Bond).
