Ethiopia (historically Abyssinia) is the classic source of civet materials for perfumery. Our highest quality "supreme" absolute (obtained within the CITES guidelines from Ranched animals) is intensely fecal and, to most people, extremely obnoxious in scent. However, in dilution (typically from 1–10%) the material becomes far more appealing and begins to show the qualities for which is has earned its long-standing position as the peak of perfection in legally traded perfume animalics. Civet absolute is easier to use than raw paste as you simply dilute it to your needs and use it immediately; on the other hand the unprocessed secretion must be tinctured and rested for many months (or even years) to be fully usable. Civet is a CITES appendix II product. In most countries this can be lawfully traded without extra paperwork if purchased for personal use. We recommend checking in advance with your own regulatory bodies. If you are purchasing for commercial reasons you may need a CITES re-export or origin certificate to accompany your purchase. You should check with your national authorities. We charge $60 USD for this certificate and it takes approximately ten days for us to apply and provide it. Simply contact us for help. We will endeavour to make the process as seamless and speedy as possible. NOTE: We ship civet and other very high-odour products in sealed foil bags to prevent cross-contamination in the event of leaks or parcel damage. We are also now selling this at 10% in natural TEC to make it more affordable and easier to dose. Origin: Abyssinia (Ethiopia)Part: Glandular secretionMethod: Solvent extraction
