A total of 101 Hymeks were built between 1961 and 1964 by Bayer Peacock and were allocated to Bristol Bath Road, Cardiff Canton, Laira, Newton Abbot and Old Oak Common depots. They were used on mixed traffic services such as secondary passenger and parcels as well as express freight and ballast workings. Unlike the Warships and the Westerns the Hymeks were not named and never sported a maroon livery and several members of the class were never painted in BR blue going to the breakers in their original green livery. D7017 was put in to preservation in 1975 and can be seen running on the West Somerset Railway. Show more
