With its distinctive German inspired styling the Warships stood out from other diesels locos introduced during the early years of the transition from steam. Unfortunately this earl y introduction also meant they were one of the first class of diesel locos to be withdrawn meaning I never saw one in service as the last few members of the fleet were withdrawn in 1972. My only memory of seeing one was D821 Greyhound which along with Hymek D7029 was for several years parked up at Kings Meadow siding just outside Reading station. British Rail blue was the final livery of the Warships although a handful were withdrawn whilst still in maroon livery. Show more
