As the most numerous of all BR mainline diesel locomotives and found on all regions of the network, this lack of rarity meant that they never quite achieved the cachet of less nume rous mainline locos such as the Westerns and Deltics. However the Western Region saw fit to name 18 of their 47s, a move which marked them out from the rest of the class.
