The 'Deltics' were named after the Napier Deltic engine that powered them which was originally developed for use in small naval attack vessels. When they entered mainline service i n 1961 the Deltics were the most powerful single engined locomotives in the world with a maximum speed of 100mph. The Deltics all sported the two tone green livery for most of the '60s but the full yellow ends were only applied in the last few years of the decade. Show more
