Standing approximately 135 cm high, this monumental clay vessel has the presence of an architectural object. Sourced from India, each is an individual, antique piece with a tall, gently tapering form. Layers of grey, charcoal and exposed clay have developed across this richly weathered surface. Each vessel carries the marks of age in its time-worn colour and patina, with areas of the raw clay showing through beneath the surface. What makes this piece particularly unusual is the combination of its scale and restraint. Despite its considerable proportions, the silhouette remains simple and beautifully balanced, making it particularly suited to an entrance hall, a quiet corner or an outdoor terrace, where the muted tones and sculptural shape will anchor the space in much the same way as a piece of furniture or art. Why I chose it: It is rare to find a vessel of this scale that still feels so restrained. The simple silhouette and extraordinary surface give it enough presence to hold a large space without needing additional decoration. I would leave it unfilled where possible, allowing the form and patina to hold the space. Alternatively, it can be styled with foliage or planting using a watertight insert.
