Cliffrose (Purshia stansburyana) is a resilient, drought-tolerant shrub that thrives in Utah’s rocky landscapes. With small, creamy-white flowers in late spring, feathery seed heads in summer and bright green semi-evergreen leaves, it provides year-round interest. Cliffrose carries a clove-like fragrance when it blooms in the spring and develops a craggy, irregular form as it grows. It prefers corse, rocky, well-drained soil and will not tolerate overwatering. This plant is decidedly not deer resistant, as they can quickly decimate a young plant. Several species of bees and butterflies are supported by Cliffrose making it an excellent shrub choice for pollinator gardens or desert/xeric rock gardens.
