Cloakroom is an imposing new biannual on design, culture, fashion and lifestyle that investigates 'the friction between good taste and bad, and the allure of that contradiction'. T his provides a good steer on where things are headed, but it had us straightaway with its super-glossiness, something that seems very much against the grain within the current vogue for more coolly restrained outings in this field. The writing is relatively unadorned so as not to get in the way, to make it all the more enjoyable this goes for the visual stories too, where the slickness is wilfully unafraid of the gaudy. Cloakroom knows exactly what it's doing and has delivered one of the more imposing new entrants we've seen in a while. Show more
