There is something special about creating a display with glass domes—especially classic French cloches. This stunning, large scale dome is a 20th century reproduction of the original 19th century Napoleon III style, also known as a “Globe de Mariée.” Originally these Globes would have contained and preserved a display of wedding souvenirs (a tradition that began in the 1800’s). It’s difficult to come across domes of this size, so this was a very special find. It features a hand made wood base with three feet, and the bottom of the globe is edged in wonderfully worn paper tape, a common practice at the time to cushion the glass, and this tape is often found on older glass cloches. Please note the base was recently repainted by the previous owner in black, which is what the original finish would have been, to reflect the classic Napoleon III ebony finishes. An incredible piece, to house your special heirlooms. Sourced from an estate in Arles. dimensions: 8.25"dia x 20.5"H Note: this item is local pick up preferred from our Pickering location only.
