It functions as an analog handbrake axis and can be mapped directly in most racing titles. It is primarily intended for drifting, rally, and other racing disciplines where a dedicated handbrake input improves control and realism. The device connects directly to a computer through USB and appears as a standard controller axis, allowing quick setup without special drivers or software. Lever position is measured using a contactless hall sensor, which provides smooth and consistent input without the wear associated with traditional potentiometers. The mechanical structure combines PETG 3D-printed structural components with standard bolts and readily available hardware to create a compact and durable assembly. DESIGNED FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING The product is intentionally engineered around additive manufacturing as a final production method. The structural components are 3D printed from PETG and designed specifically for this process rather than adapted from traditional machining methods. By designing the geometry for 3D printing from the start, it becomes possible to reduce part count, create compact structures, and simplify manufacturing while maintaining good mechanical rigidity. ABOUT THE 3D PRINTED DESIGN It is understandable that some people may initially be sceptical about a product that uses 3D-printed structural components. The goal of this project is not to hide that fact, but to design around it properly. The parts are printed from PETG, a durable engineering plastic commonly used for functional components. The design itself has gone through repeated testing and iteration to ensure the assembly remains rigid and reliable during normal use. Instead of pretending the product is something it is not, the design embraces the advantages of additive manufacturing: efficient geometry, lightweight construction, and the ability to iterate and improve the design continuously. This product is the result of many design revisions and real-world testing, developed as part of an ongoing engineering project. WHY THIS PROJECT EXISTS This project exists because of a simple combination of interests: sim racing, engineering, and learning new skills. The handbrake started as a personal engineering project built out of curiosity and the desire to create something functional while improving design, manufacturing, and electronics skills. Over time the design evolved into a product that others in the sim racing community might also find useful. It is still very much a small independent project, and that mindset remains part of the product itself. SMALL-BATCH PRODUCTION This handbrake is produced in small batches as part of an independent engineering project. Because of this approach, the design may evolve over time as improvements are made. The goal is simple: build a solid piece of sim racing hardware that works well and keeps getting better. RELIABILITY AND SUPPORT Under normal use the handbrake is designed to perform reliably and withstand regular sim racing use. However, because this is a small-batch product produced in limited quantities, it is always possible that unforeseen issues may appear over time. If that happens, the goal is to address those situations openly and fairly. Any problems that occur with the product will be supported and resolved as best as possible. The intention behind this project is not just to sell hardware, but to build something useful for the sim racing community and stand behind it. MOUNTING OPTIONS Designed for desk setups, the unit can be mounted using the included adjustable C-clamp, allowing installation without drilling or permanent modification. ROTATABLE HANDLE The handle can be rotated to allow two different orientations. SIMPLE CALIBRATION Calibration is intentionally minimal. The user only needs to define the minimum and maximum lever positions, after which the firmware automatically maps the full motion range to the input range used by the simulator.
