Colias croceus is commonly know as the Clouded Yellow. It is a small butterfly of the family Pieridae, the yellows and whites in the butterfly world. This one is painted from the c ollection of I R P Heslop. The butterfly expert Matthew Oates, has described Heslop as an ‘extreme butterfly collector’. Ian Robert Penicuick Hislop (1904-1970) was born in Bristol and later travelled widely in the diplomatic service.
