Born in Isiolo’s expansive Shambani area, Cloudia grew up in a family of eight as the youngest of three boys and three girls. While her childhood memories are hazy, what she cannot forget is the heartbreaking reality of being the sole surviving member of her family, her parents and siblings long gone. Her humble beginnings led her to marry young, settling down at just 19 with a young man from her village. Together, they raised six children, mirroring the family she once knew—three boys and three girls. Life was tough, but they managed to get by with her husband’s earnings from odd jobs. Yet, even with their best efforts, only a few of their children could attend school, and education was prioritized for the boys.Tragedy struck when Cloudia’s husband passed away suddenly, plunging the family into deep poverty.
