Coarse perlite is an excellent garden material to have around; it is primarily used to aerate soils and even grow plants directly on it. This material is excellent for rooting cutt ings of plants avoiding root rot. How to use: To amend soils: Add 1/2 cup of perlite for every 2 cups of dense soil or as needed, this will help the soil has better airflow and complexion, reducing the risks of root rot, To root cuttings: Pour 1 to 2 cups of perlite (depending on how many cuttings you have) into a shallow container and add 1/2 cup of water, stick the cuttings, and let it grow.
