This wonderful coat was made from a grey eyelash wool mohair in the 1950s. It has been cut in a classic princess coat style with a fitted waist and a flared skirt. A large shawl collar and voluminous dolman sleeves add further interest to the top of the coat, whilst the flared skirt gives the coat a lovely swishy movement. The coat closes at the waist with two fabric covered buttons arranged in a double breasted style and boasts side slit pockets. Inside, it is lined in striped multicoloured satin which has been interlined with wool for added warmth and retains its original retailer’s label for Kaufman’s. This coat has many elements that are reminiscent of the designs of Lilli Ann such as the use of fine speckled eyelash wool mohair, the striped lining and the quality of construction. However it does not bear the Lilli Ann label. This may have been detached and replaced with the retailer’s label or it may well be a good period replica.
