Some old creation myths even say that the first woman sprouted from the blossom of a coconut tree. It has long been a fertility symbol and in Bali women are forbidden to touch the coconut tree for fear of stealing its fertility. On some Pacific Islands discs were carved from the hard shell of the coconut and used as currency.
