The oval to lance-shaped foliage has smooth margins and a firm polished surface.Opening leaves are softer and lighter green, with the yellow pattern becoming clearer as they expand. Woody stems gradually branch beneath the foliage and turn a small upright plant into a compact shrub. The oldest blades provide the darkest green and strongest gold contrast, while recent growth keeps a fresher green layer at the tips. Along a mature branch, the speckling passes from small soft lime leaves to broad dark blades densely dusted with gold.
