Codiaeum variegatum (Croton) 'Petra'Codiaeum variegatum ‘Petra’ has broad glossy leaves mapped by strong coloured veins. Yellow or orange follows the midrib and side veins across a deep green blade, while warm red often develops along the margins. The oval foliage has rounded shoulders, a pointed tip and a thick leathery feel. The vein network changes colour as each leaf ages. Fresh growth is green with clear yellow lines; orange and red intensify later, and the surrounding green may deepen towards burgundy. Woody stems branch beneath the heavy foliage, creating an upright shrub whose newest leaves remain gathered at every tip. On older plants, the repeated vein patterns overlap into a dense mosaic of green, gold and red, while the largest blades show the widest separation between their bright midribs and dark outer tissue.
