A specimen of parasitic infection, presumably excised by dissection, and preserved [in spirit?] within a champagne flute. Inscribed below: 'Coenurus Cuniculi (nobis). The vesicule opened and extended. This specimen exhibits the development of the young hytadids.' Caleb Burrell Rose (1790-1872), among whose papers this painting is preserved, wrote on the rabbit tapeworm Coenurus for the London Medical Gazette in 1833 and later corresponded on the subject with Richard Owen FRS (1804-1892).
