Window glass, city behind it. Through the front window of a Manhattan soda shop, Spring 2023. Will Salkeld shoots fire escapes and brownstones reflected on glass, the Coca-Cola row out of focus across the bottom of the frame. Contemporary colour photography, documentary by layer, urban by setting. Two New Yorks, in one pane. Will Salkeld is an Australian travel photographer, based in Sydney. He works in colour across coastal, lifestyle, architectural, and urban subjects, gathered on his travels through the Mediterranean, the Americas, Asia, and the Australian coastline. His pictures centre on coastal lifestyle and the way light, geometry, and a place's everyday rhythm hold together in a single frame. Across many different parts of the world, he has a particular eye for people in candid moments, the unguarded seconds that give a place its character. His work sits in the lineage of Slim Aarons, Steve McCurry, and Martin Parr: observational, composed, and lifted by colour. Will prints with High Society Gallery on archival grade paper.
