Japanese rock band coldrain returns with their 8th album “OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE”An intense exploration of technological evolution and the questionif the desire for optimization will lead to humanity’s own demiseWith features from Bert McCracken of The Used and Kenta Koie (Aftervoid) [OPTDEMISE = It is a coined term combining “Opt” (choice), “Optimize,” and “Demise” (death/ending)]One of Japan’s biggest rock bands is making its return with their highly anticipated eighth album: coldrain will release “OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE” this September. While the name may still be new to some, the Japanese quintet has been active since 2007, building an extensive international touring history alongside the release of seven studio albums to date. Having toured with artists such as ONE OK ROCK, Papa Roach, The Used, Bullet for My Valentine, and Electric Callboy, coldrain have long claimed their place on the global stage within the alternative metal scene. Selling out arenas across their home country of Japan and showcasing their strong musicality repeatedly, the band continues to prove itself as one of the most underestimated forces in the international alternative metal scene. Now, the quintet returns with “OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE,” set for release on September 25, 2026, via Century Media Records. As explained by vocalist Masato, the record explores a central question: will humanity continue to evolve by using technological advancement as a tool, or will it pursue optimization to such an extreme that it loses its humanity, ultimately leading to its own demise? The album serves as a continuation of the band’s digital EP “OPTIMIZE”, released on October 25, 2025. Mastered by Mike Kalajian (Cigarettes After Sex, Neck Deep, Silverstein), “OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE” delivers across 12 tracks a refined balance between heavy, aggressive vocals, stadium-ready melodies, and the high-energy intensity that Japanese rock bands are known for. Standout tracks “EX HUMANITY” and “INCOMPLETE” are set to resonate long after the music stops, leaving a lasting impression on listeners. The track “POISON” features none other than Bert McCracken of The Used, marking a unique collaboration that will feel like a blast from the past for fans of the alternative scene. With “OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE”, the Japanese quintet doubles down on the strengths they have proven and refined over nearly two decades of band history. Combining explosive energy and arena-ready songwriting with a distinct international edge. It’s a record that does not stop at reaffirming coldrain’s identity but elevates it to the next level. [OPTDEMISE = It is a coined term combining “Opt” (choice), “Optimize,” and “Demise” (death/ending)]The five-piece band coldrain from Nagoya, Japan, make their global return with their eighth full-length album, “OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE”, to be released via Century Media Records. The album expands on their 2025 digital EP “OPTIMIZE”, which introduced the first five tracks. With a total of 12 songs, “OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE” continues and completes the record’s narrative while expanding coldrain’s diversity. Exploring themes of technological evolution, the album poses a central question: will humanity continue to evolve or drive itself towards demise? Musically, coldrain refine the elements that have shaped their global stand in the metal scene: stadium-ready melodies, the high-energy intensity associated with Japanese bands, and powerful, aggressive vocals. From the unforgettable opener “OPTIMIZE,” the album pulls listeners into a dynamic orbit of emotion and energy, striking a seamless balance between heavy vocal delivery and powerful singalongs. The album also pays homage to the band’s roots and history through its featured artists, including Bert McCracken of The Used, which they have toured with in the past as well as a feature from Japanese vocalist Kenta Koie on the track “SAVIOR”. Each track is layered with meticulous detail and nuanced arrangements, creating a complex yet cohesive work in which every song stands out. Masterd by Mike Kalajian (Cigarettes after Sex, Neck Deep, Silverstein), coldrain’s “OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE” proves and reaafirms across its 12 tracks the band’s position as one of THE bands to watch from the Japanese market. The album is available as Gatefold Silver LP, Digipak in O-Card, and digital album.
