A prismatic dome that changes how a high bay throws its light This is the prismatic refractor made for Collingwood's Springbok Lite 200W high bay, order code HBL3REFR. It is a deep , bell shaped hood in clear polycarbonate, moulded with fine vertical ribs that break the light up as it passes through. Fitted over the lens of the high bay it tightens the spread to a medium 80 degree beam, and it turns a flat working glow into something with sparkle and shape. Collingwood states the refractor lifts light distribution efficiency by around 20 percent. The clear prismatic polycarbonate hood The refractor is moulded in one piece from polycarbonate, which keeps it to 1.2kg and makes it far easier to live with at ceiling height than glass. It is clear rather than opaque, with closely spaced prismatic ribs running from the open rim up to the crown. Lit, those ribs read as a bright faceted band. Unlit, the hood sits below the black finned body of the Springbok Lite and takes the hard edge off an otherwise very industrial silhouette, which is what makes it worth adding in a space people actually look at. It measures 413mm across and 230mm deep. How It Works On its own the Springbok Lite 200W puts out a wide 110 degree flood. The prismatic ribs on this hood refract that output and narrow it to 80 degrees, concentrating more of the light into the pool directly below while a little scatters sideways through the walls of the refractor. Two things change at once. The floor underneath gets a tighter, harder working pool of light, and the fitting itself stops reading as a dark shape with a bright hole in it. It is a retrofit accessory, so an existing high bay does not have to come down. The fixing screws are supplied and the hood attaches to the body of the luminaire in a few minutes. Nothing is rewired and nothing is disconnected, and whatever the fitting is hung from, jack chain, an M10 drop rod or catenary wire, stays exactly as it was.
