A camera examination of your large intestine (colon) to screen for polyps, cancer, or other bowel problems. A flexible tube with a camera is inserted through the rectum while you're sedated. This is an important cancer screening tool, especially for adults over 45. For sedation, a short-acting sedative is given through an IV. The sedative used is mild enough to ensure you don't feel discomfort during the procedure, and generally, you'll wake up within about 30 minutes after the exam. It is not mandatory to have someone escort you. However, please note that driving is not permitted after the procedure, so you may order a cab.
