Colony contains nitrifying bacteria, which is absolutely essential when it comes to setting up a new tank. This product comes in both Freshwater and Marine varieties. Before you ca n introduce fish into your new aquarium, bio-filtration must be established in order to filter out harmful toxins produced by the fish- i.e. ammonia and nitrite. Both formulas have proven to be indispensable to new fish keepers. The Marine variety contains two different strains of of nitrifying bacteria essential to saltwater systems- Nitrococcus and Nitrosococcus.
