I captured this image several years ago in West Virginia after a rewarding shoot at Babcock State Park. Instead of taking the main road back to Lewisburg, I opted for the scenic route, exploring the country roads. This decision led me to Hawks Nest State Park Overlook, one of the most breathtaking views in the New River Gorge area. It was late afternoon, and the ethereal light perfectly illuminated the scene. Though it was cold at that altitude, the awe-inspiring view took my mind off the temperature. With the area all to myself, I captured what has since become one of my favorite images from West Virginia. The foliage in the distant mountains was at its peak, and the sun’s rays added a magical touch, rounding out this serene autumn landscape. The gently winding river below made it the quintessential fall photograph.
