Ideally, the site should afford some wind protection in areas that suffer high winds.The Comice pear tree grows best in soil with a pH level of 6.5. The soil should be well-draining. The tree does not tolerate overly wet roots.Dig a hole that is at least twice or three times the diameter of the tree’s root ball. Add an abundant amount of organic matter to the soil at a ratio of 50 percent hummus with 50 percent soil. Place the tree’s roots into the hole and gently smooth out the roots. Fill the hole halfway with soil and organic matter and fill the hole with water. Allow the water to drain into the soil. Once the water has drained, finish filling the hole with the dirt and hummus.
