Common Boxfish (Ostracion cubicus / Yellow Boxfish) A truly unique and eye-catching marine species, the Common Boxfish is known for its rigid, box-shaped body and bright yellow juvenile coloration that often develops into a more muted pattern as it matures. Its unusual appearance and calm swimming style make it a standout feature in larger marine aquariums. Compatibility:Peaceful but delicate. Best kept with non-aggressive, calm tankmates such as tangs, wrasses, gobies, and clownfish. Avoid aggressive species or fin-nippers, as boxfish can become stressed easily. Reef Compatibility:Reef-safe with caution. Generally will not harm corals, but may occasionally nip at small invertebrates or disturb sessile organisms while foraging. Diet:Omnivore – feeds on a varied diet including small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and some algae-based foods. Requires frequent small feedings (2–3 times daily).
