These activities help kids and teens build the ability to “read between the lines” and understand what others might be feeling, even when no words are spoken. A helpful tip is to watch a short movie or show clip with the sound turned off, then guess the characters’ emotions and intentions based on their actions. Parents and teachers can also try a simple game—let kids take turns acting out feelings using only their faces or gestures, while others guess the emotion.
