The 3M™ PELTOR™ ComTac™ VIII Tactical Headset is the next generation of the ComTac™ tactical headset platform, featuring an updated design, improved systems integration, and advanced auditory situational awareness to help provide operators with a tactical advantage during operations. The redesigned earcups and headband are engineered to promote hearing attenuation, comfort, and ease of use for the operator. Environmental Listening for Auditory Situational Awareness: The ComTac™ VIII features environmental listening, also known as "talk-through," which electronically allows safe ambient sounds to pass through the hearing protection while continuing to help protect against harmful noise. External microphones capture surrounding sounds and transmit them through speakers inside the headset. The level-dependent digital audio circuit detects noise above the desired threshold and compresses it to a safe decibel level, while also amplifying weaker sounds to an audible level. The ComTac™ VIII incorporates 3M™ PELTOR™'s latest environmental microphones, positioned in a wider and deeper parabolic design. Mission Audio Profiles (MAP): The ComTac™ VIII provides Mission Audio Profiles (MAP) that allow operators to adjust headset audio settings according to their mission requirements. Unlike traditional headsets with a fixed frequency response and simple volume adjustment, MAP provides advanced ambient listening modes with multiple gain settings combined with frequency shaping. This allows auditory performance to be enhanced across five different conditions. MAP profiles are designed with a range of combat and combat support operations in mind. Hearing Protection & Ear Plug Mode: Critical situations can produce noise levels capable of causing immediate and permanent hearing damage without proper protection. The ComTac™ VIII helps provide hearing protection and can also be used with earplugs when additional protection is required. In ear plug mode, the headset maintains a degree of auditory situational awareness by boosting headset volume to help compensate for the additional attenuation provided by the earplugs.
