This course explores evidence-based mathematics instruction that centers student thinking, problem solving, and equitable access. Using Thinking Mathematically by Carpenter, Franke, and Levi as the anchor text, candidates will examine how children develop mathematical understanding through relational thinking, conjecture, and justification. Digital resources such as Open Middle, Youcubed, NRICH, OGAP, and Illustrative Mathematics will be used to design tasks, analyze student work, and reflect on instructional moves. Candidates will evaluate current practices, implement research-backed strategies, and create inclusive math environments thatsupport all learners. Required Texts:Carpenter, T., Franke, M., & Levi, L.
