What do you get when you cross ‘Conference’ and ‘Doyenné du Comice’ pears? Step forward ‘Concorde’! This popular variety has been bred to combine the texture and productivity of ‘C onference’ with the decadent, gourmet taste of ‘Doyenné du Comice’ Perfectly suited to the UK climate, ‘Concorde’ is able to grow well in colder, more exposed locales This doesn’t lead to a compromise on flavour, though, with fine-tasting, honeyed fruits cropping late in the season towards the end of October One of the best keeping pears – pick them just before they're ripe and you can store them right the way through until January Yields double the crop of both its parent trees; in fact, you can expect a good crop within just two years ‘Concorde’ is (unsurprisingly) a recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, which is conferred upon those plants deemed to be of particularly high quality Grafted onto a Quince A rootstock, this pear tree grows to a maximum height and width of just four by four metres, meaning that it will happily fit in most gardens Our trees are usually between 18 and 36 months old at the time of dispatch Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth Show more
