A large deciduous trees with deep purple oval leaves which become reddish in autumn.Produces small flowers that are followed by spiny fruits; known as beechnuts or mast that are fo und in small burrs which drop from the tree in autumn.Although not evergreen, Beech will retain old leaves in winter, which provide additional interest and screening.
