Michael Anastassiades has long been preoccupied with the poetics of objects in proximity. The Copycat makes that sensibility visible: two spheres sharing the same space without qui te touching, each one distinct in material and scale, each one dependent on the presence of the other. The larger sphere is mouth-blown opal glass, diffusing light with an even, atmospheric warmth that neither glares nor recedes. Below it, a smaller solid aluminum sphere grounds the composition, absorbing rather than reflecting, casting a quiet shadow at the lamp's base. The contrast is deliberate. Form and counterform, weight and weightlessness, held in careful proportion.
