He has focused on the power and movement of the sea by emphasizing the peaks and troughs, and using thick white paint to show the crests. A vivid rainbow diagonally intersects the sky. This creates a division in the sky between the darkness over the sea and the lighter appearance over the headland on the right, implying a numinous response from the artist to the viewer.
