This is a pressed steel core plug (also known as a freeze plug or expansion plug) fitted into the inlet manifold of Land Rover's 2.5-litre diesel engines. Core plugs seal casting holes left during the block and manifold manufacturing process, and a corroded or displaced plug will result in coolant loss, air ingestion into the cooling system, or manifold contamination. Correct sizing is critical - this plug measures 1 7/8 inch in diameter, specific to the inlet manifold location on these engines. Key Features 1 7/8 inch (approximately 47.6mm) diameter, sized for the inlet manifold core hole on 2.5-litre diesel variants Pressed steel construction designed for interference fit installation using a suitable driver or socket Matches original manufacturer specification for Defender 2.5 NA and Turbo Diesel engines, as well as Series 2, 2A, and 3 applications Inspect surrounding plugs and sealing surfaces for corrosion when replacing - coolant condition directly affects plug longevity Vehicle Fitment Fits Defender (1986–2006) with 2.5 Naturally Aspirated Diesel and 2.5 Turbo Diesel engines, and Series 2, 2A, and Series 3 models (inlet manifold position, 1 7/8 inch).
