SWEET CORN Max F1 - 20 seeds (NOT to WA, TAS & NT) Sweet Corn SuperSweet Max F1 is a really good doer which grows well in cooler parts of Australia. It has an excellent disease-resistance package and produces good flavoured sweet-tasting yellow cobs, often two per plant. The super sweet gene (sh2) gives the following varieties “greater heightened sweetness and slow conversion to starch after harvest”. This is an untreated hybrid seed with a high germination rate. This is an F1 hybrid, so it is not suitable for seed saving. *Important Note These seeds are treated with a fungicide (Thiram/ Mefenoxam/ Fludioxonil), DO NOT eat the seeds or feed them to animals. Keep them away from children & animals. Wear gloves and thoroughly wash skin with water & soap after touching the seeds. Treated seeds do not affect your crops or harm insects such as bees. These treated seeds are strictly for propagation or growing in the garden only. THE RESULTANT CROP IS EDIBLE. Fungicide seed treatment may be an AQIS (Biosecurity, Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment, Government of Australia) requirement for certain seeds varieties. Treated seeds may be dyed a distinct colour. Read the label on the seed packet before usage. Sweet Corn Growing Instructions & Care Sweet corn can be sown in spring after all danger of frost has passed. Successive plantings can extend the harvest until January in most areas in Australia. Sow direct, 20mm-30mm deep in Spring or early Summer. Plant spacing is 30cm, and row spacing is 75cm. It needs full sun and moist soil. Frost tender plant matures in approx. 85-90 days, grows to 2m high. Block planting improves pollination and provides well-filled cobs. Prepare the soil with compost and well-rotted manure. Count 18 days from when the silk appears and start checking for ripeness; the kernel should be milky. Be aware that the Super sweet corns in the supermarket are hybrids. Open-pollinated "Heirloom" corns have a more complex flavour, not so sugary, and shorter shelf life. For the best eating, observe the cobs. When the juice in the kernels is clear, the corn is not ready. When it gets milky, the corn is ready to eat. Pick while the juice is milky, not yet pasty. Cook as fast as you can after picking.
