CORNUS ALBA ELEGANTISSIMA: White variegated foliage, spectacular in appearance throughout Spring. Summer and early Autumn, takes on a reddish hue in Autumn before falling to expose the bright red Winter stems, which are equally attractive. White flowers, followed by white-blue fruit produced on mature shrubs. Grow as a specimen or en-masse. Ideal for large shrub or mixed borders. SUITABLE FOR: Best in full sun, but will tolerate some degree of shade. Moist but well-drained soil. Hardy. HEIGHT & SPREAD IN 10 YEARS: 2.5m × 4m [8ft x 13ft). PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS: Soak the rootball before planting. Plant in a hole twice the diameter of the rootball or pot. Mix an acid organic soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil. Water regularly until established. CARE: Fully hardy and very tough. Best as a taller. Tightly clipped hedge. Trim in early Summer and again in Autumn to maintain a dense, well shaped hedge. CARE: Remove one third of total number of growth to within 5-8cm (2-3in) of ground level in early Spring on an annual basis, starting 3 years after planting. LOW MAINTENANCE: With minimal effort, this shrub delivers outstanding results. Simply prune one-third of the oldest stems in early spring to encourage strong new red shoots for next winter’s display. Feed annually with a balanced fertiliser and mulch to keep the soil moist. Birds will enjoy its berries, bees will visit its blooms, and you’ll enjoy effortless colour all year long.
