The surface does not hold at skin — it opens into successive layers: fascia, muscle, the dental arch visible t hrough what remains of the cheek. Behind it, geometric planes of teal, ochre, and deep red cut the composition into incompatible zones, none of which contains the body fully. Each layer of the figure occupies a different depth without occupying a different space. The anatomical and the architectural share the same plane without reconciling.
