An aquatic flying insect of North America. These guys are a little scary-looking, but mainly occur near fast-flowing streams of water in Eastern regions of USA. They are harmless t o humans despite their large mandibles! The female's have shorter mandibles that can deliver a good bite (only when threatened) compared to the males who have larger mandibles but unable to puncture. Show more
