Our Cotton Shell Jacket takes inspiration from the best designed outer shell styles, but stripped of unnecessary details. The result is clean, and being coarse woven full cotton, supremely unique. A note on waxing: Cotton's primary drawback from the standpoint of outerwear is its lack of water resistance, but this happens to be a surmountable issue. In fact, in the years before goretex and synthetic rainwear, waxed cotton was what people wore. Waxing a garment is a low tech process, and quite straightforward, though it's worth mentioning that the abundance of seams and overlapping layers in the construction of the shell make it a little bit more time consuming than would be the case for a 2D garment. Nonetheless, the process is simple and easy enough, and lots of instructional tutorials can be found online. The result will be a garment that is substantially heavier and darker than the stock colour, somewhat stiffer, and highly personalized. The water resistance of waxed cotton is not comparable to a rubber rain slicker, but it provides an excellent defence against the elements, particularly when paired with an insulating inner layer. Features include: mid-weight 245gsm 100% cotton inner and outer pockets with reinforced stitching branded with a word mark on the left cuff available in grey, and in sizes M, L, and XL. Sizing notes: These are a fairly slim fit and like many mountaineering-oriented shells, they are cut somewhat short in the body and generous in the shoulders and arms to maximize movement. Although they are cotton, machine washing is not recommended, unless done cold, as the shape can become distorted due to the multitude of panels and stitching from which the garment is built.
