Eau de Parfum Coup de Foudre translates as "lightning strike" and is used by the French to describe the shock of love at first sight. It was composed by Loc Dong, the first Asian fine fragrance perfumer in the industry, whose blockbuster creations include Calvin Klein's Euphoria and Giorgio Armani's Acqua di Gioia. Mentored by Dominique Ropion, Sophia Grojsman and Carlos Benaim, Dong brings a sense of boldness and emotional clarity to everything he composes. The heart of Coup de Foudre is a lustrous dewy white rose with sap green veins, early morning light illuminating unfurling petals. A creamy bouquet of jasmine, ylang-ylang and lily of the valley holds the rose in delicate place, tinted by the rooty powder of orris and kissed with the juicy, translucent fruitiness of lychee. Loc Dong floods Coup de Foudre with aldehydes that add champagne pizzazz and buoyant radial glow. Aldehydic perfumes have a satisfyingly sparkling tenor throughout the history of perfumery, and here they lift the rose into something effervescent and luminous. The top notes are a blast of bitter-green phosphorescence with cardamom and eucalyptus laying down a soothing framework for the rose, smudged at the edges by rooty vetiver. Oscillating between a tailored floral refinement and something a little more reckless, Loc Dong draws out the enduring beauty of roses and their eternal allure.
