TL;DR: Couplands makes two dog biscuit formulas in Timaru: Working Dog (20kg) for high-energy farm and hunting dogs, and Family Dog (15kg) for less active pets. Both use quality beef and lamb proteins, essential fats, and no preservatives. Local manufacturing since 1991 means fresher product and formulations designed for New Zealand conditions. What You Need to Know Working Dog formula delivers concentrated energy for dogs covering kilometres daily Family Dog formula prevents weight gain in less active pets No preservatives, shorter supply chains mean fresher product Made in Timaru since 1991 with 30+ years stockfeed experience Formulated specifically for New Zealand dogs and conditions Working Dog Biscuits (20kg) Your dog is out mustering sheep across hill country or working hard day after day. They need fuel that matches their output. Couplands Working Dog biscuits deliver concentrated energy and quality nutrition for dogs that cover kilometres daily. Beef and lamb proteins build and maintain muscle tone. Animal fat, vegetable oil, and fish oil provide concentrated energy. Fat delivers more than twice the energy per gram compared to carbohydrates, so working dogs burning through thousands of calories get what they need. Fish oil brings omega-3s for joint health and recovery. Rice and wheat cereal provide sustained energy release throughout the working day. Vitamins and minerals support bone strength, immune function, and performance. No preservatives. Quality ingredients formulated for dogs doing actual work. Bottom line: High-energy formula for dogs with high-energy jobs. Family Dog Biscuits (15kg) Your family dog goes for walks, plays in the backyard, runs at the beach on weekends. They're not burning thousands of calories mustering stock. The Family Dog formula provides quality nutrition without high energy density that leads to weight problems in less active dogs. You get quality meat proteins, essential fats, vitamins and minerals. The formula is adjusted to support healthy weight maintenance, coat condition, digestive health, and general wellbeing. The 15kg pack size makes sense for households with one or two pets rather than a team of working dogs. Bottom line: Balanced nutrition for dogs with moderate activity levels. What Makes Couplands Different Local Manufacturing Made in Timaru since 1991. Over 30 years in New Zealand's stockfeed industry means we understand New Zealand conditions, New Zealand farming, and what works for dogs here. Shorter supply chains mean fresher product reaches you faster. Product goes from production to customer quickly, not sitting in warehouses or on ships for weeks. Local Knowledge We formulate based on actual local experience. The ingredients (beef and lamb) suit New Zealand dogs. We understand New Zealand farming conditions, climate, terrain, and the type of work dogs do here. A farm dog in New Zealand works in hill country, deals with our weather, works with our sheep and cattle breeds. We're not adapting overseas formulas. We're designing for this market. Accountability We're a family business operating in your region. We're not a faceless corporation on the other side of the world. If there's an issue, you know where it came from and who made it. Supporting local manufacturing means supporting local jobs and the local economy. Bottom line: Local production means fresher product, better formulations, and real accountability. Why No Preservatives Some dog owners worry about sensitivities and reactions to artificial additives. The concern is real. We produce quality product without preservatives because we're a local manufacturer with shorter supply chains. Fresher product, faster turnover means we don't need them. This signals our priorities: quality ingredients and freshness over maximising shelf life at any cost. Bottom line: No preservatives because we don't need them, not because of marketing. How to Choose Working dog or family pet? The answer determines which formula you need. Choose Working Dog if your dog: Works on a farm mustering stock Hunts regularly Covers kilometres daily Burns through thousands of calories Choose Family Dog if your dog: Goes for daily walks Plays in the backyard Has moderate activity levels Needs weight management Bottom line: Match the nutrition to your dog's lifestyle.
