A generous throw size: 61” x 68” This quilt is a variation of the traditional Courthouse Steps pattern. The quilt is made with heavyweight 100% organic cotton, handwoven in a carbo n neutral mill that is run on solar power. The organic cotton has been hand dyed in studio with cutch (to produce the dark clay and pink shades), walnut (greys and tans) and osage orange + indigo (light teal). The front and back were machine pieced, meaning the patchwork is machine sewn. The quilting, meaning the stitches running throughout, is done by hand with cutch dyed cotton sashiko thread. Hand quilting is a very laborious and time consuming process but the impact of the hand stitches cannot be mimicked with a machine. The binding is a mix of fabrics and is sewn by hand. Show more
